Urgent Eyecare Service

There is a new urgent eyecare service set up in Leeds called CUES.

The service is free to access and will be provided by optometrists in Leeds and is for all patients. CUES will be delivered over the phone or a video call; however, for more severe cases, face-to-face appointments will be offered in the community or Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

If you have an urgent eye problem, like:

  • a red eye
  • sore / painful eye
  • flashes or floaters - this could be small dark spots, squiggly lines, rings or cobwebs
  • a sudden change in vision, or
  • foreign bodies - an object in your eye that shouldn't be there, this could be a speck of dust, a wood chip, a metal shaving, an insect or a piece of glass.

Visit the Primary Eyecare Website (www.primarycare.co.uk/find-a-practice) to find which local optician is taking part in CUES.

When your optician or GP is closed you can call NHS 111, you can access NHS online by visiting www.111.nhs.uk

Home Eye Tests

Eye test at home

If you know it's time you had an eye test but find it hard to get out to an optician, then the at-home eye testing service is for you.

You can book an appointment with qualified, experienced opticians and they’ll visit you in your own home to give you a comprehensive eye test – just like you would expect to get at a high street optician. Thanks to the latest portable testing equipment, specialists can examine your eyes, find out if there are any problems, and even fit you with new glasses if you need them - all without you leaving your home. This means you can deal with any vision or eye health problems in familiar surroundings, it allows our opticians to see your daily context, and it makes it easier to have a friend or family member with you if you need that additional support.
